Endocrine Assessments
Endocrine function evaluate the body's ability to regulate itself through hormone action. Tests include evaluations of sex and regulatory hormones (including Human Growth Hormone mediator IGF-l and sex-hormone binding globulin), Estrogen Metabolism Assessment, Bone Resorption Assessment, and a Glucose/Insulin Tolerance Test.
Bone Resorption Assessment evaluates urine for levels of pyridinium cross-links excreted in parallel with bone resorption. Useful in identifying current rate of bone loss and monitoring the efficacy of bone support therapies.
Glucose/Insulin Tolerance Test assays blood over a 4-hour period for levels of glucose and insulin, following a glucose challenge. The test provides important information about hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, and insulin resistance.
Adrenocortex Stress Profile assays four saliva samples over a 24- hour period for levels of cortisol and DHEA. Imbalances in these hormones are associated with ailments ranging from obesity and chronic fatigue to immune deficiency and increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Male Hormone Profile analyzes four saliva samples over a 24-hour period for levels of testosterone. Elevated levels suggest androgen resistance, while decreased levels may result from such causes as hypogonadism, hepatic cirrhosis, lipid abnormalities, and aging.
